First All-Ukrainian Online Competition “Preservation and Sustainable Development of Cultural Heritage” among Students
About the competition
As part of the National Program for Training Specialists in the Restoration of Cultural Heritage Monuments, the First All-Ukrainian Online Competition of Student Works entitled “Preservation and Sustainable Development of Cultural Heritage” was held. The event was part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Ukraine's membership in UNESCO and aimed to support the professional growth of young people in the field of heritage protection.
Initiators
The competition was initiated by the Department of Architecture and Preservation of UNESCO World Heritage Sites (headed by Professor Iryna Korotun) and the UNESCO Site Management Center. VAOKS joined the organization and initiated cash prizes for the best works.
Participants
The competition was held from August to early October 2024. 118 graduates from nine higher education institutions from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odesa, Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipro, and Chernivtsi participated. The diploma projects of students majoring in “Architecture and Urban Planning” at the bachelor's and master's levels, created during 2019–2024, were presented. The largest number of works was submitted by KNUBA and KNUMG named after O.M. Beketov.
Opening of the event
The event was opened by the Rector of Chernivtsi National University, Professor Ruslan Biloskursky, who emphasized the importance of the architectural profession in wartime conditions. During the competition, the special role of architects in preserving the cultural identity of Ukraine, which the aggressor is attempting to destroy through the destruction of architectural heritage, was particularly emphasized.
Tribute and resilience
The participants of the event honored the memory of the fallen defenders of Ukraine. The moderator of the competition emphasized the importance of continuing educational, scientific, and humanitarian activities even in difficult times thanks to the heroism of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Summary
The competition demonstrated not only the high quality of training of young specialists but also their deep motivation to preserve national values for future generations.
